The workshop, desk space and drawing pads have been filled with designs, failures and concepts!
The current design has evolved from the original concept. And although I had to let go of some ideals, I held true to the priority being the problems I was setting out to tackle.
The initial designs were with a rounded "dome" style roof... much like a military bunker (hence the name)...
I do love the idea behind this aesthetic, however, after wrestling with long print times and overly frustrating finishing on each module printed, I decided to move away from this idea.
I then began looking into the potential of using old PET bottles as the "bunka" section of the design, only using the 3D printer for the interlocking connector part required...
This concept gained the working title of "bottle bunka"... and although the print time was astonishingly quick, a huge tick for up-cycling and the parts fit together in a very cool way... the PET bottles were way too flexible to hold a good amount of clay in a stable manner.
There were many concepts between each of these two key design turning points... The current version of the Buzz Bunka seems to contain elements of both.
And it is with that small glimpse into what was actually a lot of hard work, frustration and redesigning in mind, I can share this little snap shot into producing the current version of the Buzz Bunka...
